Language Box

About

Welcome to the Language Box, a public forum site made by and for beginning translators! The purpose of this site is simple: if you're a translator of any kind and you happen to come across a phrase in the language you're translating for that fits quite well with another phrase or expression in your native language (even if it doesn't directly translate), then post it here! The goal is to gather as many different indirect translations for common phrases and expressions as possible so that other translators from around the internet (or yourself of course, in case you need a refresher) can have quick, easy access to them.

Although this site is currently still in development and is limited to just English and Japanese at the moment, the goal is to eventually get translators for other languages on board (non-English speakers included!), expanding the website to include a variety of languages and dialects. By enabling translators (or anyone interested) to publically contribute their findings to the site as posts, the hope is that, with time, we can put together a compendium of sorts for phrases, expressions, idioms, sayings, slang, and more which may not necessarily have any direct translation from one language to another. While this is by no means an easy task, if we work together, anything is possible!
